Movildata alternative: fleet software comparison

Fleet software comparison screen on an office desk

If you manage a fleet in Spain and have asked for three quotes, chances are one of them is Movildata. It’s an established player, with a very strong presence in professional transport and a dense sales network that reaches virtually every Spanish province. It’s there for legitimate reasons.

This comparison does what a sales rep will never do for you: acknowledge where Movildata plays very well and where Trackia offers a different proposition. The final decision depends on your fleet’s profile, not on the arguments of whoever last sent you a PDF.

What Movildata does very well

Let’s start with the positives, which are worth being clear about before proposing an alternative.

  • Specialization in professional transport: Movildata has worked for years with heavy goods, long-haul and cabotage fleets. It knows the industry and its operational quirks.
  • Digital tachograph integration: remote download and driving-time management work very reliably. For a fleet with tachographs, this carries a lot of weight.
  • Dense sales and technical network: they have installers in virtually every province. If your fleet is spread out geographically, this greatly shortens deployment times.
  • Industry track record: the team knows a haulier’s day-to-day. It shows in small product details that only appear when you’ve seen the industry from the inside for years.
  • Preconfigured Teltonika catalog: they work with the standard ecosystem, which gives you hardware independence down the road.

If your fleet is mainly professional transport with tachographs and you need a physical installer near any depot, Movildata is a legitimate, mature option. Don’t rule it out without asking them for a demo.

Where Trackia stands apart

There are three areas where Trackia offers a different proposition and where, depending on your fleet’s profile, it may be a better fit.

1. A business model with no lock-in

Movildata, like many established players in the industry, works with the usual 24- to 36-month minimum terms tied to hardware financing. It’s a legitimate model, but it limits your room to maneuver if the platform stops working for you.

Trackia works with no lock-in contract. You pay a monthly fee, the hardware is yours from day one (purchased outright or as an explicit separate installment), and if six months from now you’d rather switch providers, you take your devices with you. For an SMB that values flexibility, this matters.

2. Predictive AI at the core of the product

Movildata was built as a classic tracking and operations management platform. It does that very well, but its analytics engine is traditional statistics: threshold alerts, historical reports, vehicle-to-vehicle comparisons.

Trackia was built with predictive AI as its backbone. In practice, that means:

  • Predictive maintenance with a time horizon for each component: the platform doesn’t just tell you “this vehicle needs servicing,” but “we estimate a fuel injection pump failure in 4-6 weeks if the current pattern continues.”
  • Detection of abnormal driving patterns: braking, acceleration and cornering assessed together, not as isolated counters.
  • Automatic tire replacement recommendations based on mileage, usage profile and ambient temperature.

If your fleet is large enough that reducing unplanned downtime moves the bottom line, the AI engine matters. We’ve covered real cases in AI for fleets: use cases and real ROI.

3. A modern SaaS model

A publicly documented REST API, webhooks, native integration with ERPs such as Holded and Odoo, a native mobile app that’s continuously updated, and a web dashboard with no local installation or plugins required.

Movildata has a web platform and an app, but its architecture is that of a product that has been adding layers for fifteen years. It works, but the user experience and the pace of iteration are different from a SaaS product built in the last five years.

Who each platform is for

When to choose Movildata

  • Your fleet is mostly professional transport with digital tachographs.
  • Your vehicles are spread all over Spain and you need a nearby physical installer without long lead times.
  • You value having a dedicated regional sales rep over a self-service model.
  • A 24-36-month minimum term isn’t a deal-breaker for your organization.

When to choose Trackia

  • An SMB or midsize fleet of 10 to 200 vehicles, mostly vans or light commercial vehicles.
  • You want real predictive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • You’re not willing to sign a 24-36-month minimum term.
  • Your team is going to integrate the platform with an ERP or maintenance software.
  • You value a modern SaaS model with an app and dashboard updated every few weeks.

If you partly fit both profiles (professional transport but no lock-in, for example), ask both platforms for a demo and compare them using a real case from your fleet. Don’t rely on the generic demo with sample data.

How to decide when you’re torn between the two

Sometimes you don’t clearly fit either profile. You have a mixed fleet (professional transport and light commercial vehicles), or you’re transitioning from one business model to another. In those cases, it helps to rank the decision by priorities.

Priority 1: digital tachograph

If 60 percent or more of your fleet carries a tachograph and driving-time management is critical to your operations, Movildata has a clear advantage. Its remote download integration and regulatory interpretation of rest periods have been polished for years. Trackia supports standard downloads, but the regulatory component isn’t our main focus.

Priority 2: reducing unplanned downtime

If your recurring pain is unexpected breakdowns, vehicles stopped without warning and towing costs, Trackia has a clear advantage. The predictive maintenance engine is designed to anticipate failures with a time horizon for each component, not to react after the fact.

Priority 3: contractual flexibility

If your business is seasonal, your growth plans are uncertain or you want to be able to switch providers without penalties, Trackia wins on its model. No lock-in, hardware you own, partial removal of vehicles at no charge.

Priority 4: a nearby sales presence

If it matters to your operations team to have a regional sales rep they can call and a technician who can come out to the depot the same week, Movildata is very strong thanks to its long-standing reach.

Migrating from Movildata: what to expect

If you’re already a Movildata customer and evaluating a switch, there are three practical points to bear in mind.

Portable hardware

If your current hardware is standard (not proprietary) Teltonika, switching platforms is viable while keeping the devices. Only the destination server configuration changes. If it’s proprietary hardware, it has to be replaced, and that raises the migration cost.

Remaining minimum term

Review your current contract: if you have months left on the minimum term, work out whether it pays to wait or to pay the early termination fee. Sometimes the remaining 6-8 months are cheaper than the penalty.

Historical data

Ask the incoming provider whether they can import your trip and event history. It isn’t critical for operating (the new system starts from scratch), but it’s useful for year-over-year analysis.

What to ask in both demos

For the comparison to be useful, take the same four questions to both demos:

  1. Written minimum term and exit clause: how many months, what happens to the hardware at the end, the exact cost of portability or early termination.
  2. An AI use case with a concrete figure: ask for an example where the platform prevented downtime or saved a real customer money, with an approximate figure.
  3. Public API documentation: ask for the URL of the documentation. If it isn’t public, that’s a sign the integration is going to cost you more than it seems.
  4. A reference customer of similar size: ask for the contact of a customer with a fleet similar to yours and call them for 15 minutes.

Wrapping up

Movildata and Trackia don’t compete on exactly the same ground. Movildata is very strong in professional transport with a physical sales network; Trackia is very strong with SMBs, with a focus on predictive AI and a SaaS model with no lock-in. The right question isn’t “which one is better” but “which one fits best with how my fleet operates.”
